The Perks of Being a Registrar

* You get to meet people with gender-confusing names (Lindsay as a man, Devon as a girl....)

* You also get to hear allllll about their medical problems. From the past decade. Forget the fact that it has no relevance to my job. People just love to share.

* When patients remember your name. That always makes me feel good and guilty all at the same time.

* Just hearing things people say:
"So they have to have nurses here 24 hours a day? That is astounding!"
"You should carry a whip." (Coming from a man who I convinced to fill out paperwork after he initially refused....)
"Wow, that's some bright nail polish you have there....are you allowed to have such bright nails?"

* Inspiration for the latest trends. Like the guy wearing a red shirt, red shorts, and red shoes. At least they were all pretty close to the same shade.

* Those days when you just have it, and you get several compliments from patients. Regardless of which BSA-colored uniform you happen to be sporting that day.

* The awkward awesome moments when you try to pronounce someone's name and you completely butcher it. Thank heavens they don't usually get offended. Usually.

* When a patient goes to get some food, and they offer to get you something. Which they sometimes do, despite a polite declination :) (I have gotten egg rolls and hot chocolate from patients. Mmm...)

* Those times when patients recognize you from when they were here "a year or so ago." And you've only been working here for 7 months.

* You get really good at sanitizing things.

* When a patient you helped earlier in the day comes by again, and spouts something off that should make sense to you, but it doesn't because you have to rack your brain for at least 60 seconds before you remember who they are.

* When a patient is absolutely rude to you, and then later comes back and apologizes. This is seriously the best, and I'll tell you why. I never get offended when a patient is rude to me. I don't condone it, but I figure they're the ones that have to be in a hospital, so who am I to judge their grumpiness? So when they come back to apologize and explain, it just reaffirms my faith in humanity. It seriously makes me so happy that I didn't previously get offended, so they feel that they can do that.

* The awkward moment when a patient asks how much longer, so you check the time of their appointment and you realize you never checked them in. So you lie to their face saying, "They're running about half an hour behind." Oops....I'm only human.

I'm sure there will be a part 2 to this later on.

Blisters

I went running today.
For the first time since.....July?
Oh boy.
These little babies popped up about a mile in.
Resulting in my run turning into a walk.
I was super bummed.
It felt reeeeeeaaaaaally good to run.
Weird, right?
I've decided to become a runner.
Someday I'll run a marathon.
But first things first....I need to take care of these lovely blisters.
And get my new running shoes.
They should be here sometime next week!
Along with my pepper spray.
Two very crucial items for my new hobby.
Happy weekend, everyone!

They look like this:

            blue screen of death............................

Thanks heavens my internet and DVD player work.

By the way, if anyone knows how to correctly hook up a television for local channels........well........let me know.

Fo-taw-gruffy

Remember how I used to be really good at taking millions of pictures for every event that ever happened in my life?
I just realized that I now kind of suck at that.
Not really sure what happened.
I am now making a resolution to change that.
I am going to get better again at taking pictures.
Keep your fingers crossed.....and maybe don't hold your breath quite yet.

In the meantime, here are a few songs that I have been slightly in love with lately...I hope you love them!
...
...
I mean...I guess it's okay if you don't love them. That's just something we'll have to work through together.
Also, I'm always game for new music, so any suggestions? I'll take 'em!

I'm Soooo Happy! ....For You!

:Disclaimer:
I am about to talk about relationships and marriage and stuff.
And I am a single woman.
Just...brace yourself.
It's not going to be all sappy or a pity party.
Just some of my thoughts.
It feels like lately most of my friends have been getting engaged, or married, or are having babies.
It used to be that whenever I would see a new post on Facebook announcing something like that, I would just give the complimentary "like" and move past it without giving it another thought.
I realized this a month or so ago, and stopped to wonder why I did that.
I came to the conclusion that I have conditioned myself to do so, so that I won't get jealous or upset.
Because I know that is the typical response for a young single adult woman, and I refuse to be that person.
I don't want to be angry or bitter about being single.
Especially because there are so many great things about being single.
But in the Church, getting married and having a family is something that is constantly being stressed to us.
Which is fantastic.
But I think it tends to make some singles feel like failures.
Anyhow, I digress.
So as I was evaluating why I had turned off my emotional valve, I decided to open that up and see what happened.
You want to know what happened?
I just felt so happy for all my friends who are at that point in their lives!
Like, ridiculously happy.
I was almost giddy.
These people that I love and care about so much are just living the dream!
I have had many conversations with most of these people about someday finding "the one", and having families, and what our lives will look like in the coming years.
It's just so exciting to me to see that it actually does happen!
It's not just a myth that happens to "other" people.
And I know that through the process of elimination, eventually it will be my turn.
Not in the near, foreseeable future.
But I know that when it does happen, all my friends and family will be just as happy for me as I am for them.
I am just so glad that I decided to switch my emotions back on.
Because even though this happiness is for someone else's sake, it is very real.
And any true happiness is fine by me!

Just a small handful of my close friends and their beautiful lives :)

Do you ever have those days where you can't remember if you brushed your teeth?
Oops.

Courtesy Spring Roll

Here I sit at work.
Bored.
I got done with everything by 7:30.
I don't get to leave until 9:00.
So I'm browsing the internet.
Well...browsing the limited sites that are allowed through the filter.
Thank you, HCA, for not letting me check Facebook.
Or Pinterest.
Boo.
I can blog-stalk, but for some odd reason, most blogs aren't updated every few minutes.
Shame.
So I was thinking maybe I would update my blog.
But, my life is not exciting.
Nothing to report.
Same ol, same ol.
Hence, what I'm about to post is not super exciting.
But it made me smile.
About an hour ago, an older gentleman came to ask me a question.
He wanted my opinion on a Chinese resteraunt just down the street.
Well, I've never been there, so I was no help.
He decided to go give it a shot anyway.
He left, and I thought nothing else of it.
Just now, he showed up with a few brown paper sacks filled with Asian food.
He plopped one on my desk, and said:
"One spring roll. Do you have a piece of paper? Write down my email, and then let me know what you think!"
So I did.
I have to wait until I get off work to eat it...
But when I do, I'm sure going to email him.
I was just amazed at the thoughtfulness.
It's just one small spring roll.
But he did not have to do that.
It would have been easy not to.
But it wasn't hard to do, either.
It makes me think that I really need to get in that mindset.
It's really not hard to think more of others.
To do small acts of kindness.
It doesn't take up that that much more time in a day.
Or that much more energy.
In fact, it could be argued that it gives more than it takes.
So thank you, kind sir, for the spring roll.
I'm going to do my best to pass it on.
